Keeping the letter secret
During dinner, I kept the letter to myself. I watched my kids laugh and chatter, the normalcy feeling increasingly fragile.

Their routine comforted me, but inside I was a tangle of nerves. How would they react to the news? “Dad, you’re quiet tonight,”
my youngest remarked, breaking my train of thought. I forced a smile, hoping to delay the inevitable.
For now, I would let them enjoy this moment of peace.
